No truer comic has been drawn that describes in large part how we got here. I might just add Saint Reagan’s repeal of the Fairness Doctrine really helped set the stage for this. I wonder if we can bring it back, updated for our modern media landscape?

The corporate sponsors that have been supporting Murdoch could have him turning the needle on himself if they pull their advertising dollars from Faux News That Spews.

Yesterday, Faux news fired the news editor who called Arizona for Biden in the election. It was part of a cull of their actual journalists, to make room for more opinion-based shows.

A free press is still something I think is essential to a democracy. But more and more, I’m thinking that an oligopoly  of “press” should be illegal. Expand “restraint of trade” just a smidge to cover it. The FCC can and sort of used to do that w/ broadcast media. And I think there should be a licensing process for becoming the “editor” of a news outlet. Every couple of years, you have to get your eyes examined, pass an 8th grade history test (from any school in “your” territory, drawn and random) and convince a shrink that you can distinguish facts from fantasies at least 70% of the time.

I would like to Fox forced to remove the word “news” from its name. Maybe an honest FCC could do something about it.

Today at 12pm every capitol terrorist in custody and on the run realized that tRump has left them to rot and they will never be pardoned.

tRump had one last option to save them and he didn’t. He will never even mention these people again. I don’t know why tRump followers don’t realize that tRump DESPISES them. He thinks they’re dumb and low class. The riots did not prove to tRump that they’re loyal, but only that they’re stupid suckers.

I’d like to witness the thousands of collective aneurysms suffered when they found out that Trump pardoned Lil Wayne and Kodak Black instead of all the “patriots” who will serve long prison sentences because of him. He does not care about you. He only cares about himself.

I do believe in a free press, including investigative journalism. Totally necessary for any free country. Yet, one still must read and THINK enough to sort out who is giving you the true facts and picture. To wit: During the 1850’s, leading up to our Civil War, there were thousands of small, local newspapers owned by a local “editor”. While some were probably honest in intent, many fueled the fires of pro-and anti- slavery, many to the point of fabricating incidents which did not actually happen. CIRCULATION! Fear and Anger did sell newspapers then, and up through most of the last century, until people stopped reading! (anything!)

When Rupert Murdock bought the Chicago Sun-Times back in the 1980s, I think, superstar columnist Mike Royko called him “the alien” and led a parade of columnists and reporteres from the Sun-Times and to the rival Chicago Tribune (a newspaper that my high school US history teacher accurately said was so conservative that its science editor thought the world was flat — the reality, of course, was that its editorial board was very conservative and today is darn close to radical libertarian, even endorsing the Liberarian in the 2016 presidential election, but so put off by 4 years of Trump’s radicalism that it endorsed Joe Biden in 2020).).

The eternal progressive conflict: To try to quash such garbage would look fascistic. Not to do so risks its success.

Sooner or later Fox is going to go one step too far and fall into the abyss. In the meantime, all we can do is nip at it.

One could do what I did. Called the satellite company and had FoxNews channel removed from the line-up. And lowered the monthly charges. That package also had MSNBC and other Fox channels, CNBC, etc. I figured it was a small sacrifice.

And with all that, Hair Furor STILL LOST A LEGAL, HONEST ELECTION, and had to slink back to Mar-A-Lardo with his tail between his legs, as “Q-Anon”, and the other Reich-Wingnuts IMMEDIATELY began to collapse and feed on each other.

It’s a problem that creates itself. If Faux, Limbaugh etc hadn’t spent decades spewing lies, the American people wouldn’t have been fooled into electing Trump in the first place. But, do we really want government to control journalism? Possibly, if people heard the truth, another Trump would never be elected, but think what he could do with control of the media. Do we trust that a voter base that knows the truth can be trusted to make good decisions?
