If they could get away with it, they would only offer opposing views.

    OMG. It’s actually real!

    https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/15/us/texas-schools-books-holocaust-state-law/index.html

Attempting to be somewhat less jaw dropped, I skimmed the article. Seems like the usual law of unintended consequences… and possibly a sly dig from the administrator. But still…

Uh oh. Talk about unintended consequences! What if some kid asks for a Bible. Would the librarian insist the kid also take a copy of the Necronomicon? (—

This is all too correct. It’s also ugly.

Texas libraries carry neither of those books. Harry Potter? Banned. They got lots of bibles, though. Babtist bibles.

I can’t even imagine what an opposing view would be.

This is due to a law passed by our GOP legislature and signed by our GOP governor.

Texas has incredible influence on textbook publishers and how they construct their teaching materials. I saw it firsthand. Textbooks that other states have no choice in buying. Talk about indoctrination!

Want to know one of the best and most potentially powerful organizations for freedom in America? It the American Library Association. They fight for libraries but also for freedom from censorship and the reigning in of freedom to learn and to think for yourself.

The Turd Reich hates the ALA. It also fears the ALA.

Librarians can be very strong and powerful people.

My daughter is a Texas schoolteacher. Yes, it’s that bad. She’s quitting teaching.

When I first heard this I was sure it was an exaggeration. But then again, one should never count Texas out when comes to doubling down on extreme positions. I teach math. I suppose if I taught in Texas I would have to present the opposing position to 7 times 8 equals 56. (Some say it’s 54, others say it’s 78. Gov. Abbot says it’s the Devil’s Arithmetic.

Surprised that the Anne Frank books are in that library… or that people are allowed to check them out…

Fortunately, from the various news reports of this incident, absolutely no one (on the record, anyway) has voiced support for teaching “alternatives” to the history of the Holocaust, though Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” would be the perfect choice. “Now, offering a supporting view of mass genocide, is . . .”

Next week, there will be a Test on those “Opposing Views” to prove you read them.
