When I graduated from high school in 1962, my husband and I owned a three bedroom two bath house and two cars within a year. Most of the men who graduated with my class had similar paying jobs right out of high school. I didn’t work, didn’t need to. Most women didn’t, and those that did actually chose to work. Today, it’s not a choice for most families, and when those families break up, everyone is in poverty. When I did decide to go back to college, I paid $79 tuition for 15-18 hours of credit at SIU Edwardsville and we paid a $20 fee to rent whichever books we needed. Everyone could go to college, paying for it with a part time job. Since then American productivity and GNP have skyrocketed. But, Middle Class people don’t have anywhere near the advantages we did. And, with the cost of college, it’s darn near impossible to get a start, you already owe the cost of a house before you graduate . If the American worker is the most productive in the world, and all the stats say they are, why are the prospects for the young people of today not better than they were for us, instead of much, much worse?

“That is their choice. Get up and work. It is not so hard. Build your own business. Strive to succeed. Stop looking for someone to always help you out.”-And there’s your Republican/Fox “news” viewer version of unemployment: If only them lazy people would get to work, well, everyone would have a high paying job.

I wonder if the next generation will be called the Neo-Millennials. Knowing the penchant of ALL children to rebel, they will probably call themselves Anti-Millenials.

“…he’s so far above the Romney/McCain choice that it’s a BLESSING he is in office”.Really? with Obama the workforce participation rate is down and has been steadily dropping since he’s been in office. The number of people on public assistance has dramatically increased during his tenure and not a darn thing has been done about corporate welfare. Not to mention Obamacare which is a NEW TAX. He incorporates the worse from Democrats AND Republicans..I think a head of raw cabbage would do a better job.
