Trump, his Cabinet, Senators and Representatives are all on full pay, many federal employees are not, though some are required to work anyway. Republican party has achieved its goal.

What HAS Trump given up during the shutdown? Does he still have Air Force One ? Marine One? Household staff? Kitchen staff? Cleaning crew?

Then they expect these people who haven’t been paid for weeks to go in and clean up all the mess. Too bad they can’t clean up the mess in the White House.

IT DOESN’T SAY MUCH FOR OUR COUNTRYMEN IF THIS IS WHAT IS HAPPENING TO OUR NATIONAL PARKS

This shutdown thing looks quite bizarre to me. Why should the government employees be stopped from working, only because there is a dissent about some minor title of the budget? I’ve never heard of a similar mechanism in any other country. Even when Greece announced to be bankrupt soon, all employees continued or pretended to work. But they were paid, and this would have stopped only when the government was running out of funds (which did not happen as the EU decided to provide for the necessary funds). But, afaik, the US is neither bankrupt nor overindebted.

The parks and all NPS units should have been totally closed and shut down the first hour. Hmm, the White House is also an NPS property. . .

What the park rangers could do, put on the uniform, collect entrance fees from the visitors and put the money in their own pockets to pay themselves. If there is an excess of fees, use the fees to hire a porta pot company to provide empty porta pots. This would bypass the middle man and could be a better way to run the parks.
