Once again, Lew, reading & history (which requires reading) surpass your abilities. “The Dems” did not take over on January 3rd 2007. On that date, they achieved majorities in Congress, but the majority in the Senate was slim, so little could be accomplished there, and the White House was still occupied by your favorite president, Bush-Dick.
(I understand your anger. I really do. You failed in Vietnam. You lived on a government job for the rest of your life while railing about government. You now live on your wife’s income and your government-subsidized pension. You have huge feelings of impotence, which color your understanding about politics, society, & foreign relations, and have led to occasional snide remarks about your wife. I am sorry for that and I feel sorry for you, but I must continue to try to write clearly & accurately.)
I wrote (see above), of the unemployment level when President Obama took office. By then, it was over seven percent and climbing rapidly. It has stopped rising but is still too high.
As for Bush-Dick’s tax giveaway for the rich, the middle- & working-classes received almost nothing. My taxes actually increased. Those who made over $200,000 received enormous boons, which, along with the slowest job-growth in fifty years, increased the gap between rich & poor & helped lead to the housing bubble that popped in 2008.
I welcome your mention of Greece, because the Republicans new platform (keep almost all government spending but cut taxes) will put the U.S.A., the country I love (and I wish that you did, too) on the road to becoming another Greece.
Enough: I must work. I don’t sit around all day scratching my balls & waiting for the Viagra to kick in, as some retired postal workers do.
