We DO become used (= “inured”) to pretty much anything that doesn’t directly concern us. This is often exactly right: That accident on the other side of the freeway is none of our business, and we should move away to keep traffic moving safely. BUT … if this repeat thing is a symptom of a social problem, then we really SHOULD get involved in fixing the issue. This particular one is giving me a considerable amount of angst, but I have not figured out any way from “here” to a better place in that regard.
