Not sure where you’re going — as if it mattered what book were there. No book is required at all. It’s Biden taking the oath that counts. Yes, Biden not Obama.

I haven’t been reading Stahler long enough to know his politics, but I can live with Obama’s legacy. The best I remember Lyndon Johnson was sworn in without a Christian Bible. Why being sworn in with your hand on a Christian Bible anyway? Before anyone gets all snarly, I know Christians who object to swearing or making an oath, especially on their god’s word or book. Oh, the Bible forbids it, anyway. Jesus, (yeah, that Jesus) in Matthew 5:33 Swear not at all.

There has been at least one legislator that I know of who has been sworn in on a Quran.

I took an oath of office over 50 years ago. It ended with the words, “so help me God.”

I’ve been out of the service for decades, but I still hold myself to that oath. It isn’t the book that matters, it’s the state of heart that counts.

I wonder if that is the same Bible Trump held up after teargassing the crowd?

Trump said it and I believe it. In his “farewell address” he stated that we are headed for better times. We certainly are, starting about noon today.

book/no book, party/no party, I just pray they are able to help correct some of the ills that beset this country. They have 4 years, of which at least half will be wasted fighting partisanship, venality, and attempts to obfuscate the issues past resolution.

Just finished reading “ A Promised Land” and I think "The Audacity of Hope” would be a better choice.

Biden will be using a 127 year old family bible.

The book isn’t important, what is important is how the person handles the responsibility the oath demands.
