It seems to be literally impossible for US politicians to understand that "It doubles every (25 or so) days means that if you have 100 new cases today, then in under a month, you’re going to have 200, and in another month, it will be 400, then 800 and so forth. Literally IMPOSSIBLE. It’s like a natural law or something. So if you say “Oh look, it’s only growing pretty slowly right now, so we can open things up” then you’re just saying “It’s okay if we double the number of cases by this time next month”.
What DOES work to make the doubling rate slower? We already know: Masks any time you’re around people who you don’t already share living space with. Every time. And staying away from groups of people, particularly indoors. Oh, and staying isolated whenever feasible. What else works (but the USA won’t make it at all easy): Good fast testing with good fast contact tracing (and very strict isolation for spreaders), such as what the University Football programs are doing.
The only karma of it all is that privilege leads toward being too clean, depriving the immune system from gaining antibodies. Should Drumpf be exposed, his clean surroundings may be his detriment.
I have often claimed that Trump people are not stupid, they are ignorant, sometimes willfully ignorant. They still believe that if they want to take the risk of not wearing a mask, then they should have that right. After all it’s their body and they should have the right to do to it what they want.
What they refuse to understand – as part of willfully remaining ignorant by proclaiming what they don’t want to hear fake news – is that wearing a mask isn’t to protect them from others, it is to protect others from them.
At least I hope they are being willfully ignorant on this issue. The alternative is that they do understand, but they don’t give a f*ck about their fellow human beings. To use a Trump word to describe them as he describes others, they are “disgusting.”

In 2014 during the Ebola outbreak, They helped create 15 treatment centers in that region, provided supplies, and conducted aggressive contact tracing to limit its spread beyond Western Africa. Only one person in the United States died from Ebola after traveling from West Africa to Dallas, Texas.To help the incoming administration be better prepared to fight future pandemics, officials under President Obama took what they learned from these battles and prepared a 69-page playbook written by Obama’s National Security Council, which detailed strategies for responding to a potential pandemic. Outgoing Obama administration officials briefed Trump’s top aides on the potential dangers of a pandemic. But the Trump administration ignored the playbook Instead, spending weeks downplaying the virus, which they knew about in late December, spouting rampant misinformation and contradicting their own medical and scientific advisors. They wasted nearly two months needed to bolster the federal stockpile of critically needed supplies and equipment. By then, it was too late. Trump likes naming things after himself. This is one he has truly earned— The Trump Plague.
And the rest of the world is preparing for the second season while the USA is still mired in the first. Mandatory masks and social distancing have been proven to work.
Regardless who is president in coming years and no matter how he/she tries to end it , this thing and its future mutations could have a run to equal the longest soap operas ever broadcast. Buckle up, folks, we’re in for the ride.
