If parents are so willing to open the schools, then they need to volunteer to help keep them safe and they need to expose themselves to the same risks as the teachers.
It is a major issue not to have the daycare that school provides. In many cases, it means you have to choose between taking care of your children or working. For those lucky enough to work from home, I do not know how they can do that and home school at the same time,. Trump says, “Live with it,” so don’t expect any help from that quarter. The Federal government and this administration has washed its hands of the pandemic and abandoned you. We have to figure out a better way than just laying down and waiting to die.
Forcing teachers to go back to work in unsafe, potentially lethal conditions is not the answer either. Some school districts have NOT dealt with the issue adequately. They are using the Trump model, “live with it.” Pretend that the virus will just “go away” and conduct classes as normal.
Brace yourself for another Covid-19 spike in late August. We’ll get a reprieve for a while and there will be another spike in mid-September from all the Labor Day parties.
