Boy 1: How'd you do on the test today? Boy 2: Seems like the "fact-checkers" and I disagreed on a number of answers.
The nut of it is that the right wing refuses to accept reality. After the last debate, Chris Matthews began a post-debate interview with Rudy Giuliani, observing that professional gamblers posted astronomical odds against Trump. Giuliani literally snapped his head around and barked *"Did those odds come from Breitbart? If not, I don’t accept them!"* … and then he launched into the all-too-familiar machine-gun litany of BS talking points. (Chris just kept looking at the camera audience, shaking his head with a sad “can you believe this?” smile on his face)
I was listening to PBS during my commute, and a Trump supporter was like-wise spewing a chain of BS talking points, when he was interrupted by the interviewer, saying “But fact-checkers noted that Hillary was correct when…” – upon which the damfool wing-nut went off in a rage, saying “I am so (bleep) TIRED of all those “Fact Checkers”, because they’re all (bleep) WRONG!"
I could just picture the dude, wearing a dumbass ball cap, waving his hands in the air, “whoaaa… FACT checkers!”. Point is, these people really DO live in a dystopian, alternate reality, where empirical data can literally not be accepted as fact if it contradicts what they “feel” is the truth – and the only “facts” that can be accepted must first be vetted through the Breitbart filter / stamp of approval.
And they actually see nothing wrong with that. We’ve all seen the same sort of characters, here in these posts.
