    The pen can create and spread ideas. The sword (or other instrument of destruction) cannot and will not change ideas, nor the minds that hold the ideas as sacred.

    This is the fallacy of many wars, including ours in the Middle East. You cannot change people’s minds because you hit them with a stick. You may be able to keep them from shouting their beliefs while the stick-holder is nearby, but it will not change their beliefs, and more likely will reinforce them against you.

    Ces voyous ont trouvé refuge dans la France libre, puis remboursés à la générosité de ce pays en attaquant les gens non armés dont «péché» était être intelligent et courageux. Je espère que la France sera de retour la peine de mort pour des actes de terrorisme. Si non, alors la prison pour leur vie.

    It also helps if people can read, or have access to other opinions. If a person stays within an echo chamber of opinion or religion, he cannot see any other point f view.
