I don’t see the problem. As a species, we have to work and we like to think. Everyone should have a job, and there is enough work to do to employ everyone (in a sensible economy). We need people in all sorts of jobs. Good work is a noble thing. There is nobility in being a carpenter, for instance. We need plumbers. We need engineers. We need farmers. I’m all in favor of an educational system that prepares people for the work that society needs. But there is no reason that a carpenter can’t be interested in literature or history or philosophy as well.
