Men: We won!
Folks do realise that low-fat foods are often very high in sugar, which is even more fattening?
http://www.forksoverknives.com/^http://engine2diet.com/^I said in an earlier post on this topic that education is the first and preferable line of defense. These links were part of my education. The above links are the reason my weight went from 250 to 185 in 5 months. My total cholesterol 268 to 170, my LDL (bad cholesterol) from 170 to 100, my onset type 2 diabetes is GONE…there were other things that were ‘healed’ through diet and all within 5 months.^These are vegan diets, not vegetarian, vegan. After 5 months, I became a 75%er. I eat vegan 75% of the time. I’m a pretty good cook and able to follow recipes and add to them. I used to eat so much meat that when I drove down country roads, farm animals would move away from the fence in fear. I still eat meat, just not as much, and even my carnivorous friends love my vegan offerings.Forks Over Knives can be viewed on Netflix. It is amazing the number of ailments that can be treated by simply eating healthy. If you or someone you love is having health issues, watch the movie. If you could save a life by simply changing diet for a few months, why wouldn’t you?Respectfully,C.
“WE WON!” of course the cost of additional healthcare they will need negates that win.
They ALWAYS show fat WHITE people in these cartoons. The problem has been in BLACK communities. (I live in Harlem and the obesity in children is epidemic; their moms are usually rotund as well.) Cheap, sugary drinks hit communities that rely on Medicaid and public hospitals more than the juicebox kids downtown. I wish cartoonists would be more honest about this.
That being said, I agree with the decision that it was arbitrary and capricious, and am wary that they’ll target alcohol next.
And the ones who can’t afford it and just go straight the emergency room?I say, 100% tax on loose sodas 32 ounces and over, set aside for future health care costs.
Tax on soda? Fantastic idea! I’ll put that in my plan along with a graduated luxury tax.
On second thought, 5 buck a pack cigarettes did nothing to stop people from smoking.
Where in our US Constitution is the authority for a President, a Governor or a Mayor to mandate citizen’s diets?-Civil government is about the areas covered by the Founders’ Constitution and Bill of Rights. Diets, Foods, Drinks, obesity, health, and many other private domains have been wrongfully seized by elected officials as government control and cancellation of the Liberty and Freedom our Founders set up for us. But too many “slaves” who like “benefits” paid by others (taxpayers) have voted to reelect too many “Bosses” into government offices.-in 2013 it is the Irresponsible nation of America. Receivers of government largesse like the status quo; no one cares where the money (tax revenue or Borrowed Money) comes from or if the debt is ever repaid. Lord have mercy on wicked “gimmie” Americans…He gave us the entire earth full of resources and commanded we work to earn our bread…but our system devolved into a welfare state where few work, earn and pay the tab in dignity that the work ethic gives to those who practice it….fewer as time goes by.
said: “How’s that euro going for you?”Truly, I’ve zero euro. Haven’t even been to Europe in about five decades. Actually, I’ve just looked around at currencies. Bet you bought any currency except USD a year or two ago, eh? Even better a couple of years earlier. Maybe it’s just the basket I watch, perhaps you look at others. No idea how the various pesos are going.(Must admit, the Yen has gone a bit kamikaze recently.)Don’t worry, I’m sure USD will rebound, one day. After you fix your financial systems and the world trusts the Greenback again.
I will not cite examples as we are in different countries and brands don’t directly compare. However a good example is yoghurt. “Low Fat” means dropping a few grams of fat per litre, while making it more palatable by adding a multiple of that in sweeteners.Even if the two balance out with the same number of calories (they usually don’t, the fat-free is usually higher), the sweeter one is consumed more readily and in larger quantity. Partly due to it being perceived as “more healthy”, and partly due to sweet foods being more addictive.
ONE ounce of 80-proof alcohol contains about 90 calories, roughly equal to 8 ounces of Coca-Cola. Add any kind of syrup or juice to that cocktail and the calories and sugar skyrocket even higher. What would happen if they tried to enact a 2 drink maximum at clubs, bars and restaurants? Consider also the number of alcohol related calls law enforcement spends time (and taxpayer money) on. Single parents never need state/federal assistance because their spouse or ex is a Pepsi-holic. Suddenly a Big Gulp doesn’t seem like such a big deal.
It’s supposed to be a “low carb” diet; not a “no carb” diet. Moderation is healthy. Be daring, eat just one chip! :-D
Hello Lord of Self. ;)I did the Atkins diet two years earlier. I was unaware that you have to drink LOTS of water on that diet and developed diverticulitis. Loved that diet. Forks over Knives had info about dairy that I had not known. You might want to check it out. I do miss whole milk. Used to live next door to a dairy man and would get milk straight from the pasteurizer. Glad it’s working for you tho. Hope you can get rid of all the meds one day.To your health sir. :)Sincerely,C.
From what I’ve read, cane sugar and high-fructose corn sweetener are chemically identical, and the impact on one’s metabolism is also identical. One problem with HFCS is that it is cheap, so manufacturers/bottlers use it more liberally. A 20 oz bottle of Classic Coke has 75 grams of sugar.*To put this in perspective, a popular low-carb diet has a total daily limit of 40 grams of carbs- which would be met by slightly more than half of the above bottle of Coke. That doesn’t leave room for much food.
Sugar is sugar, if it’s from sugar cane or corn or beets. You have been listening to the lie-beral media again. Is that what you’re calling scientific research? I and others have previously explained this several times on these fora. Normal table sugar is an equal balance of sucrose and glucose. High fructose corn syrup is altered so that some of the glucose is changed into fructose. The resulting product is sweeter than table sugar. Studies have shown that HFCS leads to health problems well above the rates sugar does.
The whole soda ban thing was stupid to start with. People just got refills or bought extra drinks.
