Some wise-men gifts we could really use... tax credits, guaranteed health care, subsidized child care.
merry christmas to you too, santa.
No thanks… I’ll stick with the gold, frankincense, and myrrh…
thomas jefferson said that our great experiment in democracy would cease to exist the moment when the people would be tasked to care for those who fail to care for themselves.
Every time that someone gets something without working for it, someone else works for something without getting it. The problem with Socialsim is that you quickly run out of Other People’s Money.
Santa the Clause is absolutely right. Everyone should take care of themselves. If you can’t afford kids, don’t have them. I don’t want to take care of anyone but myself. With no incentive to do better most people will just take the handout and keep having kids.
“Santa” and his ilk, cut down the trees, sawed the wood, ran the foundry that made the nails, drilled the oil that made the asphalt for the shingles, educated himself in medicine to run the x-ray machine he built so he could diagnose and of course be the doctor who mended the bones he broke and performed the surgery to remove his ruptured spleen when he fell off the roof, because the rope he made for his safety harness, failed.
When he was unemployed from the injury, he grew the crops that made his food, and provided for his children and spouse, how? He of course paid no taxes, so the invading armies, of lawyers and soldiers carried away all his possessions and took his land for the banks he praised and took out fraudulent loans with, because “greed is good”.
“Self-sustaining Santa” has no need for others, and of course is totally independent of space, time, and society, for he is, after all HE, who reigns supreme as the soul source of knowledge and self-sufficiency!
…and if you’ve worked all your life with your contract including retirement pay and health care, then the GOP (like Governor Walker) unilaterally tears up your contract, says “we can’t afford what we promised because the rich need the money more than you do” and calls you a freeloader for not taking care of your future, just smile and say “yes, I see, you are so wise. I’ll just crawl off and die now.” The conservatives on this site are a bunch of heartless thugs who don’t even care what America stands for and are doing their best to make it fail. New Year’s Resolution: Save your future. Vote for the most liberal candidates available to you.
What we could really use are enough people who could see how government taking up every responsibility over everyone is an unsustainable concept. It is destroying the whole world right before our very eyes, and yet idiots keep squealing for government to do more and more. We just need people to wise up and open their eyes to what is happening beneath their noses.
Why can’t “conservatives” recognize that in a republic, the PEOPLE ARE “the government”. When they vote for people, or the corporations with “rights of people”, granted to them by poor choice on the part of the electorate, they betray the Constitution on which this democracy stands.
Astonishing! Jeff is really, really confused and refuses to listen to facts!
It is amazing to see all the libtards on this site make comments by which they are DEMANDING other people pay for their idiocy. To all you libtards who want socialism … MOVE TO ANY SOCIALIST COUNTRY! Do it NOW! Stay there ten years. Then see how badly you want to come back to a Republic and have some REAL freedom.
How did people ever raise children when they had to do it by themselves without government funding?
I’ll make this as brief as possible: those of us in favor of health care reform don’t want it to make you pay for our daughters’ abortions, we want it so that we don’t have to lose our jobs, homes, savings, and EVERYTHING we worked our whole lives for to be taken away from us when we get seriously ill
those are well and good social programs that every developed nation on this earth have. canada, france, uk, germany, japan, taiwan, china, india, russia, switzerland, italy, …
but, not us to some extent
