Exactly 2 things motivating Putin, it’s ingrained in the Russian psyche.

NATO? I don’t think so, unless Nato can send Americans to do their fighting, and in this case it ain’t going to happen.

Jeff is over reacting. Biden is not going to invade Russia. He is doing everything he can think of to prevent Putin from invading the Ukraine. It may not be enough to convince Putin but Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov is starting to look really tired.

I don’t think NATO is thinking about sending forces to Russia. They are thinking of sending forces to shore us the defenses of the Ukraine against Russia. But, so far, we just have forces on both side of the borders showing their resolve like a standoff.

Actually it would be the fourth attempt to succeed in an invasion of Russia. Charles XII of Sweden did so in addition to Hitler and Napoleon. The Swedes won the battles but lost the war to the winter and the vast space, just like the others.

I’m not too thrilled at seeing Napoleon and Hitler associated in the same image. But that must be because I’m French.

Is Russia making a mistake by attacking Ukraine in the winter?

In between those two attempts, Russia was defeated by the Japanese.

Fewer mountains though. Putin needs Ukraine for food. It was called the breadbasket of Russia at one time, Puttin needs it back because his own crops are failing and can’t support the country.

The Ukraine is not part of Russia, yet.

I doubt anyone wants to invade Russia. They just don’t want Russia invading other countries.

I guess Germany didn’t invade Russia in World War 1, but, responded to Russia’s invasion. I am pretty sure they wiped the field of them. It only led to the formation of the Soviet Union as a result.

What do you mean, third time? As far as I know, Russia was invaded, in chronological order, by Napoleon in 1812, by French, British and Turkish forces in 1852-4, by basically everybody in late 1918, in particular by American, British and French forces in 1918-1919, after the October revolution, and by Hitler in 1940. So…
