but there ain’t no Tolstoy to write about about it. How about “The Beautiful Poetry of Donald Trump” as an alternative. I kid you not. https://www.amazon.com/Beautiful-Poetry-Donald-Trump-Canons/dp/1786892278
Jeff is over reacting. Biden is not going to invade Russia. He is doing everything he can think of to prevent Putin from invading the Ukraine. It may not be enough to convince Putin but Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov is starting to look really tired.
I don’t think NATO is thinking about sending forces to Russia. They are thinking of sending forces to shore us the defenses of the Ukraine against Russia. But, so far, we just have forces on both side of the borders showing their resolve like a standoff.
Actually it would be the fourth attempt to succeed in an invasion of Russia. Charles XII of Sweden did so in addition to Hitler and Napoleon. The Swedes won the battles but lost the war to the winter and the vast space, just like the others.
Fewer mountains though. Putin needs Ukraine for food. It was called the breadbasket of Russia at one time, Puttin needs it back because his own crops are failing and can’t support the country.
And Churchill and Wilson. They sent troops to aid the White Russians during the Russian Civil War. Two museum ships, the USS Olympia and the HMS M-33 are physical reminders of that imbroglio.
I guess Germany didn’t invade Russia in World War 1, but, responded to Russia’s invasion. I am pretty sure they wiped the field of them. It only led to the formation of the Soviet Union as a result.
What do you mean, third time? As far as I know, Russia was invaded, in chronological order, by Napoleon in 1812, by French, British and Turkish forces in 1852-4, by basically everybody in late 1918, in particular by American, British and French forces in 1918-1919, after the October revolution, and by Hitler in 1940. So…

Russia is a lot like Afghanistan, but bigger and even more snow. And with better weapons.

Not so much sending them into Russia, but to keep the Russians there and not some other country.

It’s a toss up if Putin has taken Hitler’s roll or Stalin’s. Given they were both fascist lunatics, might not matter.

Exactly 2 things motivating Putin, it’s ingrained in the Russian psyche.

NATO? I don’t think so, unless Nato can send Americans to do their fighting, and in this case it ain’t going to happen.

We’re missing Charles XII of Sweden. Just ask Peter the Great.

So the Ukraine is now Russia? And isn’t Germany the biggest block, next to Russia, to giving aid to the Ukraine?

[insincere apologies for re-posting this here song parody of mine]
Vlad is blue and he wants a new lane
So he hopes to annex the Ukraine
While the world sits
Putin out his hits!
He’s confused, he thinks that he’s Paul Bunyan
Longing for the dear ol’ Soviet Onion
(Tons of funnin’!)
But now we have some hope (just an oodle)
Our prexy now is not Putin’s Poodle
While Vlad’mir sits
Let’s prevent his hits!

I’m not too thrilled at seeing Napoleon and Hitler associated in the same image. But that must be because I’m French.

In between those two attempts, Russia was defeated by the Japanese.
