The Hatfields and McCoys were very peaceful when compared to the religious fanatics of the Middle East!!
Please remember that the Mubarek government was overthrown by a group made up of several sects and the Muslim Brotherhood gained power through a Democratic election.
Sadly, this is what happens when a dictator is toppled. All the fanatics and dissdents who were crushed under the heel of oppression are suddenly freed to do what they want: make trouble.
They act like republicans!
Just to create a sense of perspective: Let’s imagine that the communist leftist socialist government sent the military out to take away all our guns in the US. Let’s now imagine that the caring capable responsible gun owners were capable, by means of their superior weaponry, to topple the US government and install Ted Nugent as president. When does Britain intervene?
In actuality, a truly benevolent dictatorship would make for a great government. The problem is in finding a truly benevolent dictator!
Even if such a dictator starts out as truly benevolent, will he/she stay that way?
Even the almost universally hated Adolph Hitler actually started out doing good things for the German people (yes, even many Jewish people originally supported his efforts, just look at the total chaos of the Wiemar Republic). Otherwise, just how was he able to eventually get them to follow him into the H**L that he eventually led them into?
I know that many on here from both sides of the political spectrum will be castigating me for such a post. But sometimes it is kind of fun to play the devil’s advocate!!
Everybody, have a great day!!
Mubarak, 85 and cancerous, was not salvageable. Egypt’s army was his main support, and we did NOT interfere with them. This is a nation of at least 70 millions, and we’re kinda busy in Afghanistan right now. “Militant” Islam is a serious problem, but there are 4x more Muslims than Americans. Let them work it out.
Only if you acknowledge the doubtful premise that he has a mind.
After reading President Obama’s Cairo speech, I can say that I found nothing to encourage nor “legitimize” the Muslim Brotherhood. Please post the passage that you so declare. Thanks.
Puhleeze – the Muslim Bro’hood doesn’t need BO to legitimize it.
No, the USA had been selling them M16s. Part of the US 1.5 billion$ annual “foreign aid” while Mubarak was in power.
I think you come on here to show how ignorant you are. The US government cannot control the internal affairs or revolutions by just saying what the US likes or dislikes. If that was the case, Eisenhower would of kept Castro from coming into power by telling the Cuban people, “stick with Batista.”The reason Mubarak fell is because the most powerful institution in Egypt, the Armed Forces, abandoned him. After all, it was they who ruled the country after Mubarak was forced out.As for the Muslim Brotherhood, the were the largest grassroots political organization in Egypt. They had a clear advantage when free election were held. If the anti-Muslim Brotherhood faction want to gain power, they have to organize themselves.
Not your stupidest comment, but a (rare) moment of lucidity. I salute you..just this once.
@DavidNo, what I am saying is that the present situation is unavoidable. When the heel of oppression is lightened, all the ugly stuff that was kept pressed down bursts out in all its bloody glory. It happened in Romania; it happened in Czechoslovokia; it happened in Vietnam; it will always happen.
