That is why I like accounting – there is always a correct number which can be determined. Columns have to cross foot. If the two totals are out by a factor of 9 – chances are that one of them has two digits reversed. If they are off by a factor of 5 – look for an error of 2 for 7, 4 for 9 or 3 for 8 – or the reverse of same. Math – it’s fun.
I’m with Jane; I’m fairly intelligent, I’m educated, I can figure out most problems I encounter fairly quickly & in a logical fashion – and my math skills stop at about the 5th grade level. My brain just doesn’t work that way.
I’m with the niece. It was my social skills that were always lacking – probably still are a bit even now. Give me something that requires logic any day.

Arithmetic is to mathematics as spelling is to writing. Most math is much more about exploration systems than correct or incorrect answers.
