Trophies are useless… but cash rewards are terrific when competition becomes an golfer’s occupation. The spirit of Ben Hogan is still needed, and we often learn more from hardship than from careless times labeled ‘fun’. Whoever finished LAST in my graduating class at 545th still achieved more than the people who quit and stopped trying to learn. It takes much more internal strength to keep persevering when you always seem to end up in last place.
