Or, you could just have a belief system that shields you from reality by replacing facts with opinions. All in the name of protecting the white man’s privilege.
Pays the bills, for now, doesn’t it Henry? It’s the irony of fouling your own nest that I just can’t wrap my head around. This toon is a microcosm of right wing agitprop, and policies. Henry Is saying media overdoes promoting nanny state protections (regardless of how sensible – they’re lefty PC ideas so must be disparaged – because the Marlboro man is the ultimate in manliness) even though this helps destroy the very media he is dependent on for his livelihood.
Writ large it mimics how industries are destroying the environment, even though the environment is what sustains a viable economy, billionaires hoard capital in a pissing contest of whose metaphorical penis (I.e. money pile) is biggest even though it means there are fewer people left with capital for the kind of buying that sustains these piles, and right wing operatives work hard to undermine mass media, even though mass media is what feeds their families. It’s Idiocracy as documentary rather then satire. It’s end stage capitalism as a death cult. The short sightedness is breath taking.
It really is an exercise in frustration trying to understand the pretzel logic of Trump shill, who are all too willing to reject empirical truth in order to embrace themselves in an orgy of disbelief grounded in hatred and fear. Its roots go back decades, but came to deliberate flower with the right wings’ frenzied and pathological hatred of (spit) Obama. They cannot admit they were (or are) wrong, or made a mistake, because they’ve already invested too much of their souls into the mind frame (and joys) of hatred.
Some of them actually get off on that denial of truth, even if it kills them. Like that lab rat who keeps hitting the hate crack pellets and ignores everything else to survive.
When reality intrudes (as when you try to gently point out WTF is going on), they snarl and attack in anger and denial. They hate it when they find they’re wrong or have been suckered.
@kballweg & @Zulhamon — After reading your comments, isn’t it reasonable to conclude that Payne pays little, if any, attention to rational critiques of his cartoons? He seems to lack a sense of self respect.
The Mrs is a pale complected redheaded Scot who lived and worked in Australia for a time. They know all about UV rays and cancer. It’s not called “sun cancer” down under for nothing. We all wear hats with wide enough brims and long sleeves or slathered up in sun screen along with sunglasses. Skin Cancer, melanoma, is not fun. Payne is an ar$ehole.
If I didn’t know any better I would have thought this to be a parody mocking Right wingers attitude towards safety measures. Instead, on the day the death toll caused by Trump’s stupidity on this issue reached 100,000 this is the Kind of cartoon I would have expected of Payne. Thank you for reinforcing my very poor opinion of you Payne.

I guess Henry heard he now has a standard to live up to (live down to?). He’s determined not to disappoint.
