Residential construction has been deemed an essential service in MA. There have been a number of jobsites where citizens show up and yell at the workers. Telling them they’re spreading the virus and killing people. They often end up frustrated when the workers don’t put down their tools and go home and start calling them Magats, morons, and some things that involve trump. Of course there have been many phone calls and emails to city/town hall to rat on these awful people making a living and obeying the law. Many jobsites are now posting signage that shows the state order allowing them to continue working. In one town somebody went around and tore down the signs and vandalized a couple building, although nothing too bad. They got caught by security cameras. Their car was plastered with bumper stickers of a liberal variety. Two kids. Girls, no less. In some of the municipalities in the eastern part of the state they have issued cease and desist orders despite the fact that the state order allows those construction jobs to continue if they choose to, and follow the guidance safety protocols. And no, municipalities do not have the authority to overrule state laws or orders. In the city of Newton, they stopped a homeowner from replacing a few rotted boards on his own deck. Part of my job is to track how municipalities are responding. I can tell you that 100% of the cities/towns that are defying the state are run by dems. The organized protests at residential construction sites, as opposed to angry busybodies, are unions. I don’t know about everywhere in the country but our trade unions here are basically political arms for the dem party. They aren’t working right now so they have the time to be a-holes and harass those who are working. Some people feel a need to stomp on other people’s freedoms.
