It is unfortunate that the dominant strategy these days is to run against an opponent who is not yours. Now-Senator Sanford ran in SC against Nancy Pelosi. All Republicans are running against Barack Obama, yet he is not a part of this election.

There are two alternatives which would serve the voter better. One would be to run on one’s own accomplishments. Well, when there are no accomplishments of which to be proud (quick: name one good thing your “representative” has done for you….can’t do it, can you?). The other would be to run against your real-life electoral opponent. That’s evidently not attractive either.

It is sad that this campaign method works; it shows poor judgment on the part of the voter. Part 2 of this is that evidently money wins elections, even though the voters are not the ones getting paid (that we know of….)

If this is to ever change, the voter must become more responsible to do his/her homework and vote his/her interests. I am always optimistic about this until election results show up.
