There was a Senator Proxmire who would annually give out an “award” for most ridiculous use of government funds. I remember one year the winner was a $300,000 Navy study to determine if incendiary Frisbees could be used as flares. Half the money was spent to convert a cargo aircraft to launch the Frisbees. Guess what? If you set fire to a Frisbee, it disrupts the laminar flow that provides it with lift. I could have told them that for … oh … $10,000 tops.
