As Gasoline Alley went along, the characters aged in real time. That was very unusual for comic strips then and now.

Have there been more Gertie-focused strips lately?

Every old fart needs a Gertie. I know I do.

I hit “random” and ended up on the strip over 15 years ago when Phyllis passed away. After the funeral, they retained Gertie to look after Walt. And he was old then. Gertie doesn’t seem to have aged either but back then she started out as an obviously white woman. Now she is a black woman. I don’t know when the change took place but it was the same artist, Scancarelli back then.

Golf balls $50! In the 1940’s? All he had to do was show up in the daytime and say he left something.

Phyllis, don’t think we don’t know what you’re up to, too. You want Judy married off so much you don’t care what anyone else thinks, including Judy.

Great analogy in the second and third panel. I like both perspectives.

I was going to comment that a grilled cheese sandwich isn’t the best thing for Walt, but I forgot he’s functionally immortal now.
