That little red haired hussy!
Gasoline Alley, 51 years ago today:
Is Skeezix’ joke funny? I didn’t get it.
Are they still trying to find room for the Stone Soup crew?
Annie may not be in her own strip, but every year she shows up in Dick Tracy as a friend of Junior’s girl. It turns out Daddy Warbucks and Tracy and Diet Smith are old friends. Brenda Starr also has shown up in Dick Tracy. She and Wendy Wichell are archrivals. I’m surprised that Dondi hasn’t made an appearance in Dick Tracy. All the strips belong to the Tribune syndicate. It would make sense for Dondi and Annie to share an adventure.
Moon Mullins is picking Walt’s jacket pockets.
Dondi’s a corporate lawyer in NYC these days
There are links being posted in the Annie section of GoComics each day. We have a daily strip of “Annie” from 1980 and a week’s worth of strips from “Little Orphan Annie” from 1970.
Last time they went to the old Cartoon Retirement Home, I thought Walt was going to stay permanently. Is Phyllis there?
Rerun from August 15, 2010 – 2 and a 1/2 months after the last Annie comic strip – with 2020 copyright.
Great job on Dondi.

Just two days until we start the “60 years ago today” series. Here is what happened the first few months of 1960:
Walt looks for his old pipe and finds out the Phyllis gave it to Rufus, who gave it to his friend Joel.
(This might be Joel’s first appearance. https://imgur.com/Rolk2wE)
Walt finally pays $5 to get the pipe back, but Phyllis boils it thinking that would clean it. Walt realizes it doesn’t taste the same and is no longer the pipe he loved. He gives it to Rufus. Then, a short story about 14-year old Chipper heading out in the snow to go to the drug store. In February, Skeezix tells everyone he wants no birthday present but notices everyone at the store or hiding something. He thinks it’s his presents but we see they aren’t. On his birthday, everyone gives him a tie, as he always said it’s all he needs. Actually, they all chipped in on a down payment on a refrigerator. Sarge and Miss Tabb are dating and want to set up Hack with Tabb’s friend. Hack refuses but then meets Miss Summer when he works on her car. The four decide to double date, but Miss Summer likes dining at expensive restaurants. As they eat, Sarge dances with Miss Summer, peeving Tabb and Hack who leave together. Sarge drives Miss Tabb home. When he arrives at work the next day, he has a black eye from Summer’s brother. Finally, in early April, Hope’s due date gets very close. Tomorrow, we catch up through July 27, 1960.
I would really like to see some of those “retired” cartoons come out of retirement. Serialized cartoons were great.
Let’s see, to Dondi’s left is Mickey Dugan, AKA the Yellow Kid (he’s Irish), but I don’t recall the name of the spectacled man to Dondi’s right. Then next right is Moon Mullins, and bending down is Pa from “Polly and Her Pals.” Buster Brown is then away in the back, and Jiggs is tiptoeing more in the foreground—finishing up with Offisa Pup and Ignatz Mouse, of course. That’s the one panel!
Sweet lamentations. So glad I got to see them as my dad and stretched out on the floor Sunday morning. We got both Los Angeles papers Sundays. Ah memories.
Brenda Starr is mentioned, though in 2010 her strip was in her final months (So was Cathy).
