This may be Walt’s big exit…retiring to the Old Comics Home. So much gentler than having him die. Wonder if Jim Scancarelli is thinking of retiring and ending the strip? It’s been so different over the last few months, like his heart is no longer in it.

The Old Comics Home is always my favorite story line. I definitely agree with Susan’s comment.

Uncle Walt IS Gasoline Alley! The Old Comics Home allows Jim the opportunity to keep him in the strip indefinitely. All his family can come to visit him there and they can reminisce of earlier years, etc. I share your hopes that the strip continue, but with less of Joel and much more of Skeezix and Walt.

Amen to that, post 399. And perhaps Jim will take on an apprentice so he can retire when he is ready and the strip can still go on.

Walt needs to stay. It doesn’t matter how old he gets. He is the rock solid foundation of Gasoline Alley. A vital connection to the past which we sorely need. I love the idea of the Old Comics Home. I wish I could live next door. Don’t want to live there though, too wacky/dangerous. But next door would be cool.

I hope we’ll see all the old comics from way back, way back further than when I was born. It would be really interesting to me. :)))))
