Many and sharp the num’rous ills

    Inwoven with our frame!

More pointed still we make ourselves

    Regret, remorse, and shame!

    And man, whose heav’n-erected face

    The smiles of love adorn,

    –Man’s inhumanity to man

    Makes countless thousands mourn!

Man was made to mourn: A Dirge (Robert Burns)

Umm. That snowstorm is now in the northwest.

And, bye the bye, it turns out that if you spend some  public money helping people get homes (and helping them keep ’em) then you save  on costs in the medium and long run (things like ER visits, costs to clean up campsites, keeping cops on duty near such sites, etc). And, oh yeah, you also have many fewer homeless people, which is good for tourism, good for businesses, more aesthetic for the passers-by, and… oh yeah, good for the folks who are no longer homeless. But of course, it does nothing to increase the wealth of the obscenely wealthy, so it cannot be a good thing to do. (the last sentence is intended as sarcasm)

Homeless population has gone up 47% in Oakland the last 2 years that Republicans have been cutting the budget for the poor.
