The character of Jon was irrevocably ruined when Liz became his girlfriend. Now he’s just like everybody else. Moreover, we no longer get to see Jon’s hilariously disastrous attempts to date women, which made for the most entertaining strips Jim Davis ever did. Now that Liz is Jon’s girlfriend, the writers have no clue as to what to do with her. She’s just one more prop to stand around in the background while Garfield talks about food.

He can’t.
