It have been funnier if Garfield did it while Jon was asleep on the chair and he struggled to stand up and the readers could clearly see Garfield with his head around the chair flashing an evil grin.
Please stop blaming Davis. This is not his fault, he’s just a producer, not the writer. The lines which Garfield says is great and funny! I don’t understand why are you complaining.
