So this is Odis’s first appearance in the strip.
Fun fact, Jim Davis is on record saying that he simply can’t draw dogs very well. Hence the strange looks of both Odie and the guard dog, among others.
Wow. I’d forgotten just how ugly Odie was at first!
Another Fun Fact:Odie was originally going to be named Spot. When he showed him off to fellow cartoonist Mort Walker, he said that his comic already has a dog named Spot. So Jim Davis changed his name.
I forsee a lifetime of getting kicked off tabletops for you, Odie… ;)
Back in the early 80’s, I named my cat “Odie.” He never forgave me.
Hello Odie. How are you? Garfield is not happy.
The first appearance of Odie!
I think Garfield has turned into Grumpy Cat at the sight of Odie!
It gets better and better. Doesn’t it, Garfield?
Hey, Odie doesn’t have a huge tongue sticking out for once.
Aaaaah so that’s where Odie came from
You’ve come a long way, Odie! Well, visually, at least.
Much to Garfield’s displeasure …
LOLOL!!! I forgot how funny Odie looked at first.
1. Odie has no tongue and 2. He looks more like a pig
