My paternal grandmother had some interesting loose buttons. I realize now that I should have asked whether there were any stories associated with them, and whether they represented the last piece of something precious she used to own, or were leftovers from a gift project for someone else.

I have a jar of loose buttons, from when I wore clothing with buttons, which isn’t terribly often any more. You need three things to replace a missing button. One, a needle. Two, some thread. And three, a loose button that matches closely enough.

My grandma and mom have a jar of buttons, collected through the years…of course I did the same …..very interesting how styles have changed since WWII!

I’m been collecting buttons since I was a little girl. My grandma gave me a few in a big mason jar and I was hooked. If I ever come across clothing that someone is planning to throw away for whatever reason, I would always look to see if the buttons are worth saving. I don’t have any super-expensive buttons, just sentimental mostly.

I have an old duffle coat with leather buttons that for some reason upsets the horse. Other than that the buttons on my clothes are just the same old basic lame buttons. I do have political buttons. My McGovern-Eagleton buttons are most treasured.

    …Red Buttons was always a favorite button…

…I heard that he was loose…

    …but I don’t know …

…my wife really knows how to push my buttons…

    … all other buttons…

…whether loose or not really held no interest to me…

    …except Mable…

…she hung on to my Levi’s even well past the time the zipper didn’t work properly…

…always appearing to pop out like a loose tooth…

…but never ever really doing so…

…of course I always wore a belt with Mable being fast and loose as she was…

…always tempting me to become undone…

…even when I became too fat for her…

…she went to Goodwill one day…

…but I never saw that loose button again…

    The End

I keep a smallish number of spare utilitarian buttons to use as replacements when a shirt or jacket loses one. They are rather commonplace and not extraordinary.

I also have a small collection of old political campaign buttons, going back to 1960, if not earlier. Mostly, they are from and for the party I most often support.

    Ho hum….

Bought a used bag of loose buttons? What was the bag of loose buttons used for when it was new?

Buying a bag of loose, used buttons is prob the more common transaction.

As you travel on through life, whatever may be your goal, keep your eye upon the button and not upon the hole.
