Back in the ‘60s, boys AND girls played cowboys and indians, cops and robber, hide and seek – where we lived there weren’t enough kids to segregate us like that.
Mama kicked us out after breakfast and told us to come home for meals. We lived out in the country mostly, in the suburbs a couple times. We had fun, we sometimes got hurt, I narrowly avoided being a victim of a child molester…
Childhood, isn’t safe, has never been safe, will never BE safe, but keeping kids home and sedentary makes life itself unsafe. Kids have to be allowed to take chances and learn and develop judgement.
Oh, and the child molester bit? These days there are so many cameras EVERYWHERE, with social media posting warnings all over, it’s a lot safer now.
