Good for you Fred…here’s hoping humanity will rake a lesson. We can still be individuals, disagree, opine differently and possess opposite values and still walk together with respect and I dare say (sometimes) cordiality . Happy New Year Fred lovers of all types from Southern California! Blessings!
You, once again, are a trendsetter and I have commended you several times on that in the past. You continue to set a wonderful example for all of us, and here’s hoping people will learn a lesson from you. You and Kitty have a wonderful friendship, and Kitty and the rest of the gang, because of your example, also have good friendships. Thank you for leading the way. Happy New Year, and I look forward to learning more from you in the future.
Happy New Year, and good for you for making such a fine resolution, Fred! Cats and dogs can be good friends … as can all sorts of people if only they they offer one another respect.
Back in Alex Graham’s time (which is presumably when the black and white illustration dates from) Fred sometimes chased cats and sometimes chased rabbits. In one strip, another rabbit was seen escaping from Fred and Mr Dear remarked "Poor Fred! He never catches anything. Fred replied “I once caught next door’s cat – and I’ve the scars to prove it.”
Perhaps Fred will start being friendly with rabbits as well as with cats.
I know this comment is delayed, but, since this is the first of the “New Year,” perhaps this would be a good time for GoComics to update the masthead for this strip. Alex Graham died in 1991 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Graham_(cartoonist)), and the strip is now being created by Arran Keith (author) and Michael Martin (artist) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Basset). Let’s give Mr. Graham credit for originating the characters and launching the strip, but let us also recognize the principal creators of the current strip.

Hubby’s cousin had a dog and a cat. Dog would chase cat up the stairs in their condo and cat would chase dog down the stairs. Great exercise for both.

Both of Fred’s faces in panel 1 are priceless.

Neither Fred or the cat looked too unhappy in the first panel. I think they were playing more than seriously chasing.
