I think it’s personality. Some folks are super happy types. And many dogs. Some folks not so much. And a few dogs.

Considering how people generally treat their dogs these days, the dog food might actually be better.

It’s not so much what you/dogs eat; but what it digests into. Cells can only use the soluble nutrients that can make it out of the intestines.

Why do dog food commercials keep talking about the benefits of vegetables in a dog’s diet? Didn’t they use to carnivores! Hmmm..

Pets crave and appreciate affection. Maybe pup is just happy someone is showing him attention each day at certain times. Usually pet attention is parceled out for a few moments in occasional passes through a room or yard, never regularly, except for walks.

I’m wondering, since smell is a big component of taste, and a dog has a greatly enhanced sense of smell…

Dogs were domesticated not so long ago. Then, whenever dogs/wolves got a meal, they had a few precious minutes to fill their belly while fending off other would be diners. Thirty thousand years is a very short time in terms of evolution. So dogs still eat like their meal is potentially at risk and that’s also why it is better to leave a dog alone when it is eating. As far as taste goes, Purina or a rotting moose carcass…

We might be more enthusiastic about what we eat if we weren’t reading comics at the breakfast table.

Dogs are too stupid to understand advertising and be manipulated into always craving what they don’t have. They’re not smart like humans.

Human science is still pretty stunted in the area of nonverbal communication, so adults tend to grossly misestimate & underestimate what could be going on in dogs’ brains

The difference between humans and pets. When pets are fed, they know they’re getting something and are happy about it. When humans get something, they take it as the norm and then want more.

It’s because dogs are prisoners and have absolutely no choice about when and what they eat. They are very happy to eat anything because they don’t want to starve.

You only feed your dog once a day, at least that’s the idea. He’s excited as that is often the best part of his day.

It’s not the memory so much as limited preferences and very low tendency toward boredom. If the dog remembers it, all he remembers is that it was good. Dogs don’t think about things like other possibilities and such. We tend to anthropomorphize animals; thinking of them in technical terms like “5K memory” might help.
