Apparently she has extensive (years of) experience with the weather on those two days. And they seem to be applying local observations to the entire planet. I just don’t get some of these conversations.

The equinoxes are either “spring” and “fall” or “vernal” and “autumnal”. Criss crossing them like this just feels wrong.

PS: Think about when the vernal equinox is in Australia!

Her conclusion describes a person who can’t make up his/her mind.

The Equinoxes are The Equalizers

FALL today!!! I love my spring flowers and summer fruit, but I really come alive with the crispness of fall.

Another budding meteorologist and an adult who should know better? Who in their right mind— much less one who lives in the upper mid-west of the US— assigns any particular weather to a calendar date?

I get enough from real weathermen who quote average temperatures as “normal” and then say things like, “Yesterday the high was two degrees above what it should be for that date; but tomorrow we’ll be a degree cooler to partially make up for this week.”

Well, this autumnal equinox started with rain. It’s still raining and will continue to rain for at least another 36 hours. Sigh

Personally, I’ll take autumn. The unbearable heat is over, the colours, the crisp air! And I actually enjoy the coming snow…

Winter is Coming! (YAAAAAY!)

Some of us like winter. ;-)

I think a great, great deal of the preference for summer over winter in some circles is due to getting summer off from school in childhood, and a lingering residual association of summer with summer vacation even in adulthood. Once you get past that association, many of us look forward to bracing winter weather in autumn a lot more than we look forward to sweltering summer weather in spring.

Happy Equinox! I too am glad to see the extreme heat behind us, though we will have more hot days after today’s cool spell. I figure we can always put on more clothes if it’s cool! When it’s hot, there’s only so much we can remove.

Where we live the vernal equinox has brought shorts & flip-flops weather, also some of the worst winter storms I’ve ever seen.

Living in the Central Valley of California, I’ll take winter over summer every time!

My favorite time of year is Autumn.

Why on Earth does one need to prefer one over the other? We are where we are, just enjoy today for what it brings you.
