Boats are like swimming. You usually just go out and end up in the same place you started.

So I’m guessing the swim is from Mackinaw City to Mackinac?

The swim is from Macinaw City to St. Ignace if going south to north or vice versa if going north to south.

@stew BekSt. Ignace, MI is the north side of the bridge. Labor Day is the traditional walk across the bridge – I miss it now that we’re in SD. Heck of swim it would be; the total bridge is a bit over 2 miles long!

Oh, come on people! Jeeze….! It’s the Mackinac Bridge (Still pronounced Mackinaw) and Mackinaw City, (Still pronounced Mackinaw) The sign coming into town reads, “Mackinaw City Village Limit”……..And the beautiful Bridge is 5 miles long…..djc928 has it right….It’s prettier than most suspension bridges, because the setting allows it to stretch out to it’s full glory….It goes from a town of 3,000 to a town of 2,000….Seem kinda silly, until you look how far you’d have to drive around without it there….Did the Bridge Walk as a kid…I highly recommend it….Just don’t drop things on the freighters……..

Good luck on the swim Jef! Minor critique though, the towers are ivory not white.

There’s the Dalmac bike ride from E. Lansing to the bridge (my hubby is now about there after 4 days of biking) and then tomorrow is the walk across the bridge. The bridge is special to the state in which Jeff lives.

Can just barely remember crossing the Straits on a ferry, on the way to the Wisconsin Dells from Toledo. Was so foggy, couldn’t see from one side of the boat to the other.

And once again, the GoComics version of the strip omits the title panel!

C’mon folks, electrons are a lot cheaper than the paper and ink the Raleigh News&Observer devoted to it. You’ve no excuse for leaving it out.

For those of you who no longer support the printed press, the title panel shows Frazz sitting on the floor with his guitar and a pad of paper. He’s writing the lyrics:

“When life demands purpose, existence a reason,When one needs to justifywhat one believes in,

Philosophy’s fine andbeliefs have their usesBut sometimes we just needa bunch of excuses."

Beautiful… Just beautiful!!! Every time we cross the Mackinac Bridge, I’m filled with awe. This captures that feeling so very well! Good luck with the swim, Jef!

Thanks for letting us know about that title panel, aviatrexx! We finally gave up taking the paper just a few months ago. (We swore we never would, as long as there was a paper to get, but… sigh…) We’re going out in a little bit, and we’ll definitely stop and pick up a Free Press just to have this gorgeous cartoon.

Sorry guys, on my old lap top it was as white as the clouds. And I remember it when it was under construction, just a “few” years ago. I actually have a close up picture of the towers taken last winter from on the ice and use it as my desktop. Lots of rust on those cream colored towers. I would post the pic but don’t know how.
