A little ditty about programmers explains my concerns about artificial intelligence and self driving cars. If carpenters built houses like programmers write programs then the first woodpecker to come along would destroy civilization.
As a cyclist who has also driven (in a professional and touring with the Dead capacity) many more miles than most people will ever drive I wonder how much worse they can be than real (texting, eating, fiddling with the audio/video…) drivers.
Today’s panel reminds me of an old song that I heard; the title and artist escape me, but there is a verse in it about “driving ninety miles an hour down a dead end street”.

If there’s artificial intelligence, there must be artificial stupidity.
