One of my favorites is “Let ’em all go to Hell. Except Cave 76.”

My buddy claims the U.S. national anthem should be a police siren.

I’m from the United States, but I adore “O Canada.” It’s a beautiful anthem. On the other hand, the “Star-Mangled Banner” is a hard-to-sing anachronism that observes an obscure 199-year-old battle and borrows its tune from an even-older English drinking song, “Anacreon in Heaven.” Many singers, especially African-American singers, feel that they have to take the word, “free,” even an octave higher than it was originally intended.I’m strongly in favor of the “Star Spangled Banner” being replaced with “America the Beautiful.”

I like the idea of using “Waltzing Matilda.” It lacks the pretention and self-importance that characterizes most national anthums. I can’t help but wonder how the US would have turned out if they had settled on “Yankee Doodle”…

It came down to a choice between Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean or the Star Spangled Banner. Columbia’s more fun to sing.

That’s America aka My Country ’Tis of Thee that goes to "God Save the Queen. America the Beautiful starts: O beautiful for spacious skies for amber waves of grain…

I love the Star Spangled Banner as our national anthem.Did you know it has 17 verses? That’s what a friend of mine says, anyway!.I’m also a Southerner who loves the song Battle Hymn of the Republic! It was, after all written by a fellow Southerner. and I love Dixie, which, by the way, was written by a Dang Yankee! .Bless their hearts!.I’m from LA, don’t ‘cha know! That’s Lower Alabama; Enterprise, to be exact (Home of the World Famous Boll Weevil Monument!)

No, you’re thinking of “My Country, ’Tis of Thee.” “America the Beautiful’s” tune sounds nothing like “God Save the Queen/King.”
