I remember when I tired that in middle school. It didn’t work that well.

Let him fail. Peter is plenty old enough to deal with the consequences of his own poor choices.

There is a risk of wearing out his brain before the test. Sometimes a rested brain is better.

Just a week or two ago we were seeing the strips about her deliberately getting her husband to go without coffee by letting their supply run out. Did she have a secret stash all along?

I was a much worse procrastinator than Peter but I always retained about 90% of everything I read the first time I read it, so it didn’t really matter. In university if I had a major essay due at 9am I would get up and start writing it at about 4 am. I’d have it written with footnotes, quotations and everything else required by 8 am. Only time I was almost late was an occasion where my computer crashed and I had to wait for the library to open it to print it. The funny thing was I tried writing some of my essays ahead of time so i could try to rewrite them to improve them, but I always got better grades on the work i did at the last minute.

One Sunday night I asked my parents to help me with a book report project. My dad asked me when it was due: “Tomorrow.” Then he asked me when I found out about it: “About a week or so ago.” My father said, “You got yourself into this…you’ll get yourself out of it.” That was the last time I ever seriously procrastinated.

Cram that short term memory with the facts and you’ll be okay. But I can’t remember when the war of 1812 took place.

Like I told my students… you shouldn’t have to study for an exam if you learned the material during the term… a quick review would be sufficient.

Historical authors are too regional. Nothing of historical note happened west of the Appellation mountains in the civil war. Kansas and Missouri history disagrees with that.

My wife is a high school teacher – currently teaching remote. One of the things that has really become accented is how many kids lack basic “study” skills – taking notes, preparing for an exam, that sort of stuff. She has had to incorporate this into her curriculum explicitly, instead of implicitly which was the previous model. It is a topic of discussion of why all of this has changed and over what time – but it definitely seems different than when we were that age.

Don’t worry, Peter, there are plenty of fast food jobs, or you can dig ditches for a living.

Don’t you stress Andi, make him stress about taking summer school or that class over again during regular school.
