An irrational number being, of course, a number that cannot be expressed as the ratio of 2 integers – pi, e, square roots of all but one prime. Hence the joke.
One guy says “the square roots of 2 and 3 are 1 and 2½ respectively” and another one says “the decimal version of 1/9, which is 0.9999…”Honestly, I’m very disappointed by the level of education in Mathematics displayed here.

Could be worse. Their playing football could be entirely imaginary. (Hut √-1. Hut √-1*2)
Strod over 9 years ago
Their playing football may be irrational, but at least it’s not transcendental.

If you dig the square “root” of two out of the ground, can you eat it raw or does it need to be cooked?
dflak over 9 years ago
1 is approximately equal to 2, especially for large values of 1.
