I guess those guys are way cooler than us. Has anyone thought to offer them more money to come back? That usually works. A better parking space if front of the office? Stock options? Nah, those are worthless these days. I guess we’ll have to be happy with reruns. 1/7th of a pie is better than none.
My personal belief is that the very creative ones get burned out. They set very high standards for themselves, and it must get stressful after a while. Much easier to just sit back and let the rerun and book revenues roll in.
In the case of Bill Watterson, he put so much work into his art, just to watch nincompoop editors hack it up for space restrictions. I don’t blame him for getting out. But I sure miss him!

Yeah, I feel the same way. Foxtrot is kind of empty without any story arcs. Now we have to wait a week at a time to get a new strip.
