Other Roger: Well, here we are! The north pole! Roger: Are those penguins over there? Other Roger: Yeah. Why? Roger: Don't penguins live at the south pole? Other Roger: Stupid Mapquest. Roger: So should we turn around or keep going?
Not necessarily. Since Roger’s dreaming, they could be great auks, even though in real life, this bird was hunted to extinction by 1844. The great auk, in fact, was the original “penguin”; this term was applied to it before it was applied to any of whom we consider penguins today (eg. the Emperor, King, Adelie, rockhopper, and gentoo). Like penguins, the great auk was black and white, flightless, semiaquatic, and ate fish. Auks (such as puffins and guillemots) and penguins, of course, belong to separate orders.
