You have to pull the rocket’s finger to start it.

The “Pull My Finger to Launch” isn’t as cool as the traditional big red button.

They came close, years ago. Scientists once tried using mercaptans (basically, skunk stink) as rocket fuel! One research project even developed a fuel molecule which smelled so foul that it attracted flies, and they ended up having to bury the samples to get rid of the stench.

Source: Ignition! An Informal History of Liquid Rocket Propellants, by John Drury Clark. It’s a fascinating and quite fun read!

wouldn’t sound any worse than some of the vehicles that pass my house every day – the obnoxious blasts of noise from inside(I think they call it music, but they got to be deaf it’s so loud even with their windows closed), vibrations of subwoofers that rattle all the windows and vibrate the walls, straight pipe blasts, putt-putt leaking exhausts systems, shock squeaking, etc. are enough to irritate a deaf dog, literal. most irritating after midnight.

I once heard an air-compressor built around 1900. It sounded very flatulent.
