"Nerds are in, Twig!" "Only in movies written by nerds that star nerds." "They get good reviews!" "Reviewers are nerds." "And super positive articles!" "Journalists are huge nerds." "Cool girls go to those movies, too." "So they know who to avoid in real life."
Nerds explore deep space and the depths of the ocean, climb volcanoes and slog through jungles, work with fossils and wild animals (the last three being things I have done), invent aspects of the latest remote medical devises and lidar.
But do NOT assume that most or even many get rich, though it has reasonable pay and the great fun of working with fascinating people. Most work for universities or corporations. We should know. Lidar (which finally has had the tech to use it affordably catch up to it) was originally one of my hubby’s patents in the 1990s through the company he worked for, and you still use patents of his every time you listen to music delivered electronically, though some others have been supplanted by more recent advances. Nope, we did not get rich, but we had fun, and have wonderful and fascinating friends.
