I think chick is the only one with at last a little Topsider experience.

I’m a bit disappointed here. I was hoping for something new, instead of more Topsiders. Still, Mr. Neathery always spins a good tale so I’m sure it will be interesting.

Why would disguised Topsiders lurk around a deserted beach where only these kids have gone and that only twice?

I’m actually not disappointed. I think about it this way – the folks that now reside here are victims to topsiders snatching them from this location. Who knows how many more and how close to the colony those topsiders will go. I mean, while this whole comic is fantasy/cartoon, I think it makes sense to stay rooted in the reality that they must endure, which is the threat of topsiders finding them. Now the exciting part comes from how they manage to deal with them, if they can.

The book “Watership Down” comes to mind. Spinning a theory here: a few colonists get snatched now and then by Topsiders doing scientific research, possibly wanting to be able to live without the suits and without mutating. The colony leaders are aware of this and cooperate secretly with the Topsiders instructions in return for “safety”.

Chic is more savvy than the other kids give him credit for. He recognizes the threat even when they don’t… yet.

Chick shows more awareness than the other toughs. In doing so, he shows more experience than they thought he had.

Maybe the topsider has mutated to be invisible. In that case he would be no more welcome to the rest of the topsiders than any other anthomorph.

I think that the $64.00 (or whatever monetary unit Endtown uses) question is….how did Chic know the “monster” was a Topsider???

Who wants to best Chic will be taking the lead on the next mission…, unless his foster parents intervene?

Big question is, “how did the Topsiders get to become invisible”? Have they found DITTO’s?

It’s a lost Topsider, separated from his Transporter and partner, unable to contact his dome. Doomed to wander the wastes until his suit resources wear out. Did you know that he’s also Dutch?

While the Apex goons were probably known by the general populace, the extent of their atrocities during The End might not be. Eden, here, could have been set up by Apex from before The End as a colony for study of “radiation effects”. The deal could be a “safe place” for the inhabitants…with the cost being an occasional lab subject. A number of posters have guessed the “occasional sacrifice” part. I’ll just have to wait and see what happens. I’m enjoying it.

I just noticed Irving sitting on Chic’s shoulder in panel 3.

Also, the four have established a bond with each other that includes Chic. He has friends, now.

It’s more serious than I thought. I didn’t want to say it was a topsider, but it figures. Now we can modify the list of the troubles this colony has by saying, there’s this new contact that’s a topsider, that is now aware that there are mutants in numbers hiding someplace nearby. But why are they here? Gathering intel?

But this Topsider ran away from four kids. Acted afraid. Didn’t use its zero gun or anything.

Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but I sense a conspiracy here. Something odd is going on in the colony. There is some kind of racket going on that the leadership doesn’t want upset. There’s an invisible topsider scaring people away from the beach that REALLY doesn’t want to be identified as such. All were are missing is a great dane and some meddling teenagers and the picture would be complete. Anybody got some Scooby Snacks?
