The old “Naked Fullback play”. Very effective but seldom used…

I worked at a Nike factory back in 1989, years before the move to Asia in the mid 90’s, even in the states they were slave drivers with impossible “goals” that were way over quota. If you didn’t hit 150% by 90 days you were unceremoniously let go from employment, even though I had been averaging 135% within the first week there, it wasn’t good enough for the plant manager, who was the nephew of a senior board member.

There was a Nike ad on this website yesterday. I have to wonder if working conditions have improved since the jobs were outsourced to China.

I see an echo of a scene in the movie “Slap Shot”, if you saw the movie you know which one I mean.

So evil, and yet so popular. Odd, that.

I will say… this series and other recent factors, have convinced me to no longer purchase Nike shoes or products.

When I was in college in the mid 1970’s (at the University of Oregon no less!) I don’t remember Nike being any big deal at all. My impression at the time was that the go-to cool running shoes were Adidas, and they were also the most expensive. Nike was around but they seemed to just be an also-ran (pun not originally intended). So in my mind, I just can’t see Nike as being any big deal at all, especially since they have to rely on that simple “swoosh” symbol, where Adidas had the more distinctive 3 bars on the sides of the shoes. And no, I didn’t have either kind. But I did enjoy watching track.
