Mark didn’t know the mic was on.
That was extremely funny for this mostly clever strip.
What a happier, more naïve age…
Nice going, Casey Kasem.
Some people come out and some people fall out. I think he just got pushed out.
There used to be a show on tv: ‘Kids Say The Darnest Thing’. The host, Art Linkletter, knew he struck gold when he asked his pet question: "what did mommy and daddy tell you not to say on the show’ and got screams from the audience as little boy or girl spilled the dirt.
Possibly the best was Bill King’s “uncensored” segment which really opened up some eyes as the audience heard King’s off-air banter with his broadcasters, which included some rather colorful language. The best segment was the actual audio call of the “Mother’s Day” incident from the Warriors’ game at Seattle on December 6, 1968. King was outraged by (ostensibly) poor officiating from official Ed T. Rush in his rookie season. After several calls had gone against the Warriors, King took off his headset, turned off his microphone, cupped his hands and yelled a certain expletive at Rush. Unbeknownst to King, the crowd mic was on and Bill’s insult went over the airwaves. The Warriors were assessed a technical foul and owner Franklin Mieuli later had to pay a fine to the Federal Communications Commission for the incident. Bill would receive a Mother’s Day card annually from Rush after that.
Chase – “A GAY PRESIDENT IN 2084!”“I’m realistic.”
Out of the closet and into the air!
Is this arc ever gonna end?
Well, this is awkward. Still, it had to happen sooner or later, Chance.
My god being outed on a toon. Is there no shame!
Damn Gates ™ boards, anyways ! (someone, somewhere out there will know what I mean and have stories about it !)
Like, we didn’t know this would happen at some point.
In Panel 4, Mark certainly doesn’t look surprised. If he did it on purpose, well, MAJOR jerk move on Mark’s part. Break-up level IMHO. Outing someone you know doesn’t want to be outed wouldn’t even be considered appropriate today, much less thirty or so years ago. :-|
So is “Chase’s” full name “Chasten”, who is now married to Mayor Pete, the new head of the Dept of Transportation? Probably too old to be the same person. A quick google search confirms the current Chasten is too young to be Chase.
Chase just got tossed out of the closet in the GOP’s Big Tent. And the Democrats aren’t hiring.
We’re off? Well that ought to hold the little bastards over for a while.
