The highlight of the 1996 Steve Forbes’s campaign was being used as a plot device for Mike to meet Kim.
I have a feeling this girl is the one for Mike.
For some of us, we have known Kim a long time. She’s the last orphan out of Vietnam. https://readingdoonesbury.files.wordpress.com/2018/09/5may75.png?w=656
3:31 PM December 6th 1997.
They’re colouring her yellow? What is this, the 1950s?
One of the fun things about re-reading long-gone comics is seeing major events or turning points like this one.
FINALLY THEY MEET♡♡♡♡♡!!!!
Last time we saw this girl was in the 70’s when she was a little baby, being flown out of wartorn Vietnam, and her first words were “Big Mac!”
Well, score one for Mike. He met a girl.
…so THIS is how they met…
Among the oldest Doonesbury strips on line. Of course it has been censored. https://assets.amuniversal.com/1b058fc0acae012d63f600163e41dd5bw
“To meet girls” (especially hot ones in crop tops). Mission Accomplished!
I’ll bet he marries her
Mike: “Its been a while since I’ve gotten any, either.”
First appearance of Kim, Mike’s second & current wife
It is possible to simultaneously meet women and give stuff back!
Lost causes – like his first wife.
Cue portentous music; enter Kim, stage left.
Kim—quintessential gen-X character…
“And this, Alex… is how I met your new mother.”
Hopeless causes always have the most hopeful girls. :)
Ooooh, a belly shirt. The future is here Mike.
Does this count as a “meet cute”?
I suppose that Mike must have been aware of JJ when Joanie joined the Walden group, but he didn’t really get together with JJ until they both worked on the 1980 John Anderson presidential campaign. Sure worked out better this time. (And Kim even had the good sense not to be working for Forbes.)
