I realize that everybody has been focusing on Des and Ray, but how’s about a round of applause for May, who’s got one hell of a job on her single-mom hands and seems to be dealing with it relatively OK.
What’s the PC-acceptable ratio of whites to non-whites in comics these days? MUST one have an ethnic character in their strip simply for the purpose of having a token ethnic character in their strip? Seems self-defeating. Everything should be automatic and common, not forced.
Dez and Ray are perfect, real-world characters that fit right in and are definitely center to the story line. That’s the way to do it.
My Mother died a year and a half ago. I miss her everyday. She went without eating so us children could eat. I was 5 when I promised her diamonds. It took me 46 years., but I bought her diamond earrings which she deserved. In her last 3 years I took care of her while my siblings forgotten her Birthday, Christmas, and Mother’s Day. They hardly visited unless they wanted money out of her. She died in her sleep. When I woke up, she was dead. I will be living with this guilt for the rest of my life. But she was a great Mom and I hope I was there for her.
