So Meg is supposed to read between your lies to discern the truth?

This entire episode is totally the fault of BD, and yet he manages to point fingers of blame everywhere else. He’s clearly in the wrong profession…

BD is completely in the right. She first dumps the dude, than springs out of nowhere unanounced and is being oblivious to other people. In reality this would be stalking.

BD is far from blameless, but he is 100% accurate in his assessment of the present circumstances. Still, these circumstances are helping him to crystallize a few things for himself.

    1) Boopsie is the woman he loves and wants to stay with. Meg was an emotional reaction to the stress of war, as was he for her.

    2) He has “got some ‘splainin’ to do” to Boopsie, and hope she doesn’t kick HIM to the curb. After all, he just spent several days trying to coach his best friend from the Army through that exact situation.

    3) Meg really IS the brainless bimbo he always thought, and treated Boopsie as if, SHE was. And he realizes that it’s not very attractive, and that he prefers someone with the capacity for self-reliance he has had to realize and accept that Boopsie possesses. At first, he found it off-putting because it was a change from the Boopsie he thought he had left at home. Now he is realizing that it’s important and valuable. (We in 2018, of course, know how important and valuable her self-reliance will prove to be when he loses his leg.)

BD, before getting all superior and making fun of her, you should apologise for lying.

As we used to say in the Navy: “Do you want to talk to the Officer in Charge, or to the Chief who actually knows what’s going on?”

I knew people who served in the First Gulf War. Let us say there was lots of drinking and promiscuity….

We call the patch for the 4th Infantry Division “the officers’ compass.”

“But are you sure you are an officer?” Sounds like an officer to me.

I don’t remember this arc all that well. Are we sure she’s not just jerking his chain so she can explode with “You told me you had no girlfriend!”?

See? Even BD thinks Meg is setting new standards for Clueless Officer Material.

Boot Lieutenants are Supposed to be Clueless about the Army, not all of Life.
